title>Paiggo MP3 scooters using ride by wire technology
Piaggio MP3 scooters have been a showcase of technology since day one. To add to this reputation, Piaggio is replacing their 250cc engine with their new 300 i.e. engine.
Piaggio MP3 300 i.e. engine features ride-by-wire throttle technology to operate the throttle body for the electronic fuel injection. This helps create increased efficiency in addition to the slightly higher torque that the 300 engine offers over the 250.
The Piaggio MP3 250 has a US list price of $7199. With a max speed of 77 mph and fuel mileage of 55-60 mpg, it has proven to be a capable scooter. The 244.3cc engine puts out 22.5 hp at a high revving 8250 rpm, and torque is rated at 15 lb-ft (21 Nm) at 6750 rpm.
The new MP3 300 engine has a little more torque than the MP3 250, and is rated at approximately 17 lb-ft. Horsepower is about the same. As of this writing, the 300 i.e. engine is not available yet in USA.
Piaggio launched their hybrid MP3 scooter during 2009, which also features ride by wire technology. The hybrid MP3 scooter has a gasoline powered engine and an electric motor to allow fuel savings and ability to drive on electric power only.
